Benchmarking for Reps

How does your Rep Agency measure up?

Do you know how your fellow Rep Agencies compensate their sales force? Do you know how many have warehouses? How about what other agencies spend on health insurance and other employee benefits?

AIM/R Rep Profile is the Associations' official Benchmarking Survey for Rep Agencies. As part of the Association's Strategic Plan, the AIM/R Board of Directors identified Benchmarking as a key and on-going initiative for the Association.

It's true. The data is richer with more participating companies. The survey is conducted by a third-party - The Profit Planning Group (PPG). Company data is submitted to PPG and is kept highly confidential. Individual company data is not accessible to other companies. Only participating companies receive the official summary report.

The survey is conducted every two years with the the first survey taking place in 2016. A total of 70 rep agency member companies participated in 2018. From the 2018 survey, we learned that AIM/R Rep Agencies represent the following:

  • $9.7 billion in total sales
  • 257 stocking rep companies
  • 4,350 total employees servicing the PHCC industry
  • 2,175 total outside sales reps actively selling our manufacturers’ products
  • An average 44 years in business maintaining local relationships
  • Stability in the market obtained with 69% of the businesses being family-owned

Reports for the 2018 survey were be distributed to participating companies in summer. Look for an update on the 2020 AIM/R RepProfile Survey in January 2020.
